• Airborne Heritage: The 4th Brigade Combat Team (Airborne), 25th Infantry Division—known as 4/25th Infantry—is the only airborne brigade combat team in the Pacific Theater of the United States Army. • Nickname: The unit is nicknamed the “Spartan Brigade,” reflecting its rigorous training and warrior ethos. • Alaskan Stationing: The brigade is based at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson (JBER), Alaska, uniquely positioning it for rapid deployment in Arctic and Pacific regions. • Reactivation: 4/25th Infantry was activated on 16 October 2005 as part of the Army's transformation to modular brigade combat teams. • Distinctive Insignia: The unit’s distinctive unit insignia features a Spartan helmet and crossed swords, symbolizing airborne capabilities and combat readiness. • Combat Deployments: The brigade deployed to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) in 2006-2007 and Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) in 2009-2010 and 2011-2012. • First Major Combat Drop: 4/25th Infantry conducted a historic combat parachute assault into Iraq in 2006, marking the first US parachute assault since the 2003 invasion. • Extreme Cold Weather Training: The unit regularly trains in Arctic and sub-Arctic conditions, preparing soldiers for operations in some of the world’s most challenging environments. • Community Involvement: The brigade is deeply involved with the Alaskan community, participating in events like the Iditarod sled dog race and local outreach activities. • Medal of Honor Recipient: Staff Sergeant Ryan Pitts, who served with 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment (part of 4/25th), received the Medal of Honor for his actions in Afghanistan in 2008.
