The 272nd Signal Construction Company was a U.S. Army unit activated during World War II to provide critical communications infrastructure. Organized in 1942, the company was responsible for constructing, repairing, and maintaining telephone and telegraph lines in various theaters of operation, including the European Theater. The 272nd played a vital role in ensuring reliable communication for advancing Allied forces, often working under hazardous conditions close to the front lines. After the war, the unit was inactivated as part of the Army’s postwar reorganization, but its legacy lives on in the annals of Army Signal Corps history.
