The 219th Aviation Company, known as the "Headhunters," was activated in the early 1960s as part of the U.S. Army's effort to enhance aerial reconnaissance and support capabilities during the Vietnam War. The unit primarily operated the OV-1 Mohawk aircraft, conducting visual and electronic surveillance, artillery spotting, and target acquisition missions throughout South Vietnam and neighboring regions. Renowned for its effectiveness and daring pilots, the 219th played a crucial role in gathering battlefield intelligence and supporting ground operations. After years of distinguished service, the company was eventually inactivated as part of postwar drawdowns and restructuring of Army aviation assets.
