The 2nd Battalion, 152nd Mechanized Infantry (2/152 Mech Inf) is a unit with a distinguished legacy within the South African Army. Originally formed as part of the broader 152 Mechanized Brigade during the South African Border War, 2/152 Mech Inf played a pivotal role in several major operations, including cross-border raids and conventional engagements in Angola during the 1980s. Known for its mobility and firepower, the battalion was equipped with Ratel infantry fighting vehicles, which allowed it to operate effectively in the challenging terrain of southern Africa. After the end of the Border War and subsequent restructuring of the South African National Defence Force, the unit was eventually disbanded, but its history remains a testament to the professionalism and adaptability of South Africa’s mechanized infantry forces.
