The 1st Battalion, 149th Infantry Regiment, known as the "Mountain Warriors," traces its lineage to the Kentucky State Guard units formed in the 19th century. The regiment served with distinction in both World Wars, seeing combat in Europe during World War II. During the Global War on Terror, the 1-149th Infantry was deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, providing security and conducting counterinsurgency operations. Today, the battalion remains a vital component of the Kentucky Army National Guard, trained for both state and federal missions, including disaster response and overseas deployments.
