The 179th Aviation Company (179th AVN Co), also known as the "Shrimp Boats," was a United States Army aviation unit activated during the Vietnam War. Established in 1966, the company operated primarily as an assault helicopter unit, flying UH-1 Hueys and supporting the 52nd Aviation Battalion and various infantry divisions. The 179th AVN Co played a crucial role in air mobility operations, troop insertions, resupply missions, and medical evacuations throughout the Central Highlands of Vietnam. The unit was highly decorated for its service before being inactivated following the drawdown of U.S. forces in Southeast Asia.
