The 175th Veterinary Detachment was a U.S. Army unit deployed during the Vietnam War, stationed at Chu Lai, South Vietnam. Activated to provide veterinary support, the detachment was responsible for the care of military working dogs, food safety inspections, and preventive medicine for both U.S. and allied forces in the area. Operating in a challenging environment from the late 1960s, the unit played a critical role in ensuring animal health and food sanitation, directly contributing to overall force readiness. The 175th Veterinary Detachment exemplified the essential but often overlooked support services within military operations during the Vietnam conflict.
