355th Fighter Wing

• The 355th Fighter Wing is based out of Davis-Monthan Air Force Base in Arizona. • It was first activated in 1942 during World War II and has been an active unit ever since. • The 355th Fighter Wing has participated in numerous conflicts and deployments, including Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, and Enduring Freedom. • One of the wing's most famous squadrons is the 354th Fighter Squadron, known as the "Bulldogs." • In 1957, the 355th Fighter Wing was designated as the first Tactical Air Command unit to receive the F-105 Thunderchief, a tactical strike aircraft. • The 355th Fighter Wing has been awarded numerous unit citations and awards for its exceptional performance in combat. • In 2011, the wing was redesignated as the 355th Fighter Wing, reflecting its focus on providing close air support and combat search and rescue missions. • Several aircraft associated with the 355th Fighter Wing have been featured in popular movies and documentaries, including the A-10 Thunderbolt II and the AC-130 gunship. • The wing is known for its motto, "Patior Potior," which translates to "To suffer makes me stronger." • Currently, the 355th Fighter Wing is actively involved in training future pilots and maintaining readiness for global operations.
