I enlisted in the Naval Reserves in Oct. 1960. Went to boot camp Great Lakes Naval Station in Dec. 1960. Then I inquired about the Navy Music program and was sent to the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York for an audition which I passed. Was given transportation to Washington, DC where I was transfered to the regular Navy in July 1961 where I attended the Navy School of Music. After that I was assigned to the USS Northampton (CC-1).
