GARY CALVIN
In 1964, I switched from air force admin to navy sonar, attended A and C schools until 1966. Went to my first ship ORLECK, in Yokosuka, as STG3, then Vietnam, etc., and headed home; in 1967 back to C school where I made STG2; returning to Orleck I received orders to USS SOMERS pre-commissioning crew, Hunters Point, near San Francisco; I made STG1 in 1968, then leading sonar tech, then division leading petty officer. We returned to Vietnam with Sasebo as home port in 1969, returning June 1970. I received an early out since the ship would be overseas again by Feb 71. Went home to Salem, Oregon, joined the reserves, made STGC in 1971 and served as training officer, attended college five years, degree in business from Oregon State, followed by 23 years with the state of Oregon in accounting, management analyst and computer programmer. Retired since 2000- travelled around to Arizona golf school, Mesquite, NV, to play golf, tourist in Wyoming, Montana, Nevada, North and South Dakota. Now, basic homebody on the computer everyday.
