USS Forrestal

U.S. Navy

The USS Forrestal was an aircraft carrier of the United States Navy. It was named after James Forrestal, the first Secretary of Defense. Commissioned in 1955, the USS Forrestal served in the Vietnam War and the Cold War. The ship was decommissioned in 1993 and eventually scrapped in 2014.

USS Rathburne (FF-1057) was a Knox-class frigate commissioned into the United States Navy on 16 May 1970. Named in honor of John Rathbun, a Continental Navy officer, the ship served primarily in the Pacific Fleet, undertaking anti-submarine warfare, convoy escort, and training missions during the Cold War. Rathburne participated in multiple deployments to the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean, supporting U.S. interests and allied operations. The frigate was decommissioned on 14 February 1992 and later sunk as a target during a training exercise in 2002.

**Trident Refit Facility Bangor** (TRFB), located at Naval Base Kitsap in Bangor, Washington, was established in 1981 to provide maintenance and refit services for the U.S. Navy’s Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs). As one of only two Trident Refit Facilities in the United States, TRFB plays a crucial role in supporting the Navy’s strategic deterrent mission by ensuring the operational readiness, modernization, and repair of these submarines. Over the decades, TRFB has expanded its capabilities to include support for guided-missile submarines (SSGNs) and other fleet assets. USS Holland (AS-32) was a submarine tender commissioned by the United States Navy on 7 September 1963. Designed to provide maintenance, logistics, and support services to nuclear-powered submarines, she played a crucial role during the Cold War, particularly in supporting the Polaris and Poseidon ballistic missile submarines. Throughout her service, Holland operated primarily in the Atlantic and Mediterranean, including deployments to Holy Loch, Scotland, and Rota, Spain. After nearly three decades of service, she was decommissioned on 30 September 1996.

Assault Craft Unit Four (ACU-4) is a United States Navy unit established in 1983 and based at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Virginia. Its primary mission is to operate and maintain Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) vehicles, enabling rapid ship-to-shore movement of troops, vehicles, and equipment during amphibious operations. ACU-4 played significant roles in major exercises and real-world operations, including support for Operations Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom, and humanitarian relief missions. The unit continues to be a vital component of the Navy’s amphibious capabilities, demonstrating flexibility and readiness in diverse environments around the world.
