1972 I bought a bracelet for Spec5 Robert Herreic 10-10-68 on it. I was 12. I still have the bracelet. I don't know if he made it home or not. Any info please. I'm now 63. I have never forgot never will. I still have the bracelet

I found info on a Spec5 Robert Herreid. He was in an ambush in Vietnam on 10-10-68, the same date that’s on your bracelet. He was killed and his body was never recovered.. His home state was Illinois. You can get more of the story and his photo by going to:

DEROS….during the Vietnam War DEROS meant one was going home …DEROS …Date Estimated Return from OverSeas ….DEROS for me came unexpectedly bc as a grunt one was the last to know anything….I already made my peace with my God deep down in the mud …I would die there in the Nam

In 1971-72 I served with David Pearson in the 59th Field Service Company at Cam Ranh Bay. He was a field laundry machine mechanic! David Tony and I shared a Hooch together.

in the mud ....in the dark ...in the night ....you grip ur weapon ready ...the distant firing stops ...suddenly its all quiet again ...in the confusion ur knee knocked over ur canteen and it spilled over ur grenades and full medal jackets ...at ur knees it wet and muddy...in the mud...cant find radio flashlight nothing at ur feet ...but you stay alert ...weapon ready ..waiting for the next probe ....

its dark ...its quiet ...its pitch black only stars shining ...u and two of ur buddies are on outpost ...basecamp is one mile exactly to the rear... and its waybtoon darknand quiet...and ur sleepy....thinking about ur girl and if its not too late to keep her...then all of sudden quiet ....not a sound...then AK47 rifle rounds...to the right ...thenn more to yhe left ...ur buddies are up and at the ready ...what was that ??
