Tom Joyce is a native of New Jersey, and currently resides in Somerset,Pennsylvania. Joyce enlisted in the Army, June of 1964 where after basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey, and jump school at Fort Benning, Georgia, was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Joyce served with the 101st Brigade Separate A/Co. 1/327th from 1964 to 1966, with a tour in Vietnam from 1965 to 1966. The author views the soldiers he served with and the ones he has met as the true heros and they will share a friendship and bond that will last a lifetime. The stories and events shared in this book detail one man's ordeal and the lifelong effect it has had on him. By sharing his experiences Joyce hopes to help soldiers past and present coping with life after war, and those dealing with Post Traumatic Stress (PTSD).

During the war in Southeast Asia, the author flew combat missions in three different aircraft: The KC-135 Tanker, and the HH-3 and HH-53 USAF Rescue Helicopters. In the pre-dawn hours of November 21, 1970, Apple 3 crossed the center of the POW camp at Son Tay, North Vietnam, some 23 miles northwest of Hanoi, N.V. and neutralized both gun towers before the US Army Special Forces were inserted. Lt Col Waldron and others received the Silver Star for the heroism and bravery they displayed during their daring attempt to rescue American POWs.
