Orleans, France Reunion
This pass August I was in Chicago, Ill. to be united with friends that I had not seen since 1965. It was the best reunion I have ever attended. Some of the us were in Detroit last year this was the first one. We plan to continue doing this until forever. Next year we are going to meet in Memphis, Tenn. Can't wait. ' '

Found a friend
After 34 years of searching I found the young soldier, and he came to visit me last year. While with the (104th Trans Det) Long Binh, So. Vietnam 1970 to 71, on a Saturday it was brought to my attention that a soldier had hung himself in an abandoned building. Upon arriving on the scene I saw numerous personnel standing and looking at the soldier. I told them to cut him down. As they laid him on the ground I noticed that he moved slightly, something in my mind said mouth to mouth and I immediately applied mouth to mouth and was able to revive him. After 34 years of searching I found the young soldier, and he came to visit me last year. It was such an emotional meeting and we promised to always keep in touch for the rest of our lives. He is married and has two daughters. '

45 year reunion
Don't hesitate to get your own reunion going or to attend one. I only wish we had done it sooner to see the guys who are no longer with us.In November of 2003 I received a phone call from my best friend in the Navy, Alan Howard, who had been looking for me for 45 years. To make a long story probably longer, we reunited and started the search for more shipmates from the USS Midway, CVA-41, "G" Division from 1956-1960.

We were fortunate enough to find 15 others, (along with 7 wives) and had our first reunion in June 04, aboard the Midway, now a museum in San Diego. We all had reservations about how the reunion would come off, as it had been 45 years since most of us had seen each other. I can tell you that after 15 minutes the only thing that had changed was that we were older, wiser, balder, chunkier and the stories were far more embellished then really happened. It was definitely one of life's great experiences.

We are planning another in May 06 in Orlando, FL, and so far we have reached another 10 shipmates and looking for more. We are dedicating each reunion to the 13 shipmates who have passed on.

Don't hesitate to get your own reunion going or to attend one. I only wish we had done it sooner to see the guys who are no longer with us.

Happy Holidays to you all and God Bless all of our Service Men and Women in our Armed Forces. '

I miss him, but now we have a means to keep in touch, thanks to VetFriends.com. Thank you for being there and enabling old friends to connect again over time and distance.I retired from the Air Force in May, 1986, at Offutt AFB, Nebraska. I had been assigned there from Howard AFB, Panama, in November, 1982. When I left Howard, I left behind many good friends. But one particularly good buddy was my Assistant NCOIC, SSgt Warren N. (Neal) McCoy. Like me, he is (as I remember) from the great State of Alabama.

Last year (2004), I purchased my first computer. After I had become accustomed to doing web searches and finding a site like this one, I decided to see if I could locate any of my old comrades from my Blue Suiter days. Neal was one man I never expected to reunite with, but I looked him up, anyway. I found several Warren N. McCoys but only one who had been an NCO. His last address was in Colorado Springs, Colorado. I found a telephone number through this reunion website and called it without any real hope that the man at the other end of the line would be my friend, Neal. I got an answering machine and left my name and telephone number. He called me back the next day and, lo and behold, it was Neal.

We spent about 45 minutes on the phone that night talking over old times and about old companions who had gone separate ways. I now have his e-mail address and telephone number and he has mine. We can now talk to each other anytime we wish via e-mail and I have invited him and his lovely wife (whom I have never met) to stop over in Tuscaloosa so I can see him again when he and his wife travel to their Christmas destination. It was great to know that he and I were as good friends as when we served together in Panama. One story we both chuckled about was the time we both tried to learn Spanish in Panama. A simple enough language to learn, but oh, how we could butcher word pronunciations for even the simplest sentence.

I miss him, but now we have a means to keep in touch, thanks to VetFriends.com. Thank you for being there and enabling old friends to connect again over time and distance. '

Reunion set upOver Memorial Day weekend this year (05), 23 grunts and their families met in Gatlinburg, TN for their second reunion in as many years. What a wonderful time we had. Our first gathering was held in Austin TX in May 04. This was the first time the Charlie Company, 2/12, 25th ID grunts had been together since 1969-70. Thanks to Ron Hughes, Ted Grace, and Roger Maxwell for that undertaking.

I hosted this year's reunion in Gatlinburg, TN and will do it again next year (2006). Everyone had such a great time...so much to do and see....everyone wanted to return....so any Charlie Company member who served late 69 thru 70, you and family are certainly welcome to join us. Give me a call (423)345-5000, e-mail danbreedi@cs.com for more info. Thanks and GOD BLESS. ' ' '

C-97 crash
Pleased to receive a photo through VetFriends.I made an entry in VetFriends.com about a year ago, hoping to locate someone who served with me at Kelly AFB, San Antonio,TX in 1951 and 1952. A few weeks ago the son of a pilot I served with emailed me. The son was only four years old when his father was killed in a plane crash. We were assigned to the same squadron at this time and I do vaguely recall his father. I have a large squadron photo made only 3 months prior to his death and he is on the first row. The son had never seen this photo, so I made a copy and sent it to him. He was very pleased and it gave me a good feeling also. '

reunion
When they reunited , they traded 60 yrs worth of stories and memories.Six Decades ago...Two men created a special bond; now, they have reunited. When Leo Acosta (my dad) received a phone call from someone named "John Arroyo", he wasn't sure who was on the line. But as soon as Acosta picked up the receiver and heard the man's voice, he knew immediately that it belonged to his old army buddy- a man who was called "Hector" by his fellow soldiers. Leo Acosta and Hector John Arroyo hadn't seen or spoken to one another in six decades. Knowing they had much to catch up on, Arroyo planned a trip from his home in New York to Acosta's house in Nacogdoches,TX. When they reunited , they traded 60 yrs worth of stories and memories.

Arroyo had sent pictures home to his mom while in World War II. After she passed away he came across his war pictures and had noticed he had written the names and addresses on the back. He attempted to contact some of them and to his disappointment most of them had died. Then he successfully located Leo Acosta. At that point he and his wife Luz planned a short order trip to Texas to visit the Acosta's. "It was a delight to recall history" Arroyo said. "It was such a joy to see the two embrace and recall their time together as army brothers. The two plan to keep in touch with each other.

After sixty long years they still remembered those days as if it were only yesterday. We are very proud of our fathers as well as all the other men and women that are still fighting for our freedom. Thanks to all who gave all and are still giving it their all. God Bless You and your families. Regina Acosta Collins '
