  • Band of Brothers Connection: The 2nd Battalion, 506th Infantry Regiment (2/506th), is the sister battalion to the famed "Easy Company" (E Company, 2nd Battalion) featured in the book and HBO miniseries Band of Brothers.
  • Currahee Motto: The unit’s nickname, "Currahee," is derived from a Cherokee word meaning "stands alone," and is also the name of the mountain near Camp Toccoa, Georgia, where the regiment trained during World War II.
  • D-Day Airborne Assault: On June 6, 1944, the 2/506th parachuted into Normandy as part of Operation Overlord, playing a key role in securing the causeways leading off Utah Beach.
