ABOUT 1:8th Infantry
- Origin and Nickname: The 1st Battalion, 8th Infantry Regiment (1-8 IN) is part of the 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division. It is nicknamed "Fighting Eagles."
- Civil War Roots: The 8th Infantry Regiment was constituted in 1838, giving it one of the longest lineages in the U.S. Army, with early service on the American frontier and in the Mexican-American War.
- World War II Valor: During WWII, the regiment participated in several major campaigns including Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes-Alsace, and Central Europe, earning numerous battle streamers.
